Last week, The Webservant and HolyCowDesign Gal met in Lincoln for a mother-daughter, girls only, creativity infused weekday (perk of being self-employed) getaway!
We stayed at the most wonderful bed 'n breakfast on the outskirts of Lincoln. We had no problem kickin' off our heels and sliding into our slippers for some relaxation.
We shopped, we dined, we laughed and even got to catch up with Jeff for the Bebo Norman and MercyMe concert.
All in all, a wonderful memory. I feel so thankful that my mom is also one of my very best friends. I look forward to many more getaways (Dad! Our turn next!).
Thanks to family friends and fellow villagers Craig and Kelli Safranek passed on their Creighton basketball season tickets for Aaron to use as incentives for his students.
Of course, C&K will be attending the games of their choice, in the meantime, we were thrilled for the opportunity to enjoy the games together.
VICTORY& FREE PIZZA! JAYS WON! Another perk? When the Jays score 75 points everyone's ticket becomes valid for a free personal plan pizza from Godfathers. Yay!
Tuesday, November 4th the King Science Wildcats faced off against the Morton panthers. The bleachers were filled, the energy was flowing and coach Brooker was as cool as the other side of the pillow.
A slow start put King Wildcats down by 10 at halftime.
After a dramatic halftime speech a new energy drove the Wildcats to erase the deficit from the first half and were able to tie the game with less than a minute remaining.
A heavy press was in place. A couple free throws went our way and with seconds remaining King clenched the victory with a score of 52-48.
We snatched the victory out of the jaws of defeat."Coach Brooker commented after the game. All in all, it was a fun game to watch and the right way to start out the season.
Keep coming back for more scores and highlights! Go Wildcats!
We have this frame that was purchased to hold one of our favorite photos in the space at the head of our bed. But, we have yet to pick a photo we want to frame, so, I decided to just paint something to go there until we decide!
Aaron, Heidi and myself went to the Ethiopian restaurant last night to celebrate Aaron's birthday. We were the only ones there and, thankfully, this time they had enough food! (Last time we visited they had run out of food, eek)
The decor was simple. The mood was set by music similar to this...
Utensils were unnecessary - at least that's the vibe we got from our waitress when we asked for a fork. She looked at us like, "Just use your hands?!" S0 -- we did!
This was my (Laura) plate. Heidi and Aaron ordered lamb and I ordered the vegetarian option which included potatoes, carrots, lentils, collard greens.
Notice the bread like substance framing the food. It's called injera.
Injera is an Ethiopian flat bread that is very thin and somewhat crepe-like in appearance. Made from flour ground from teff, a grain cultivated in Ethiopia, the bread begins as a batter that is poured into a skillet and made into a round-shaped flexible flat bread that is baked only on one side.
Injera is a common accompaniment to evening meals in Ethiopia where it is used as a base on which other foods, such as meats, poultry, fish, or vegetables, are piled and then eaten. We brooke it apart and used it to wrap our food up and eat it.
Presents and CAKE! Aaron had a ton of calls from his friends and family. As shown here, he is very excited for two new discs from his mom and dad.
Here are the cake highlights.
Our neighbor Michelle's birthday is also on Halloween so we walked across the alley and shared birthday cake with them.
Lastly we went to a scary movie - Quarantine. It was somewhat of a zombie movie and (I thought) quite scary. Here's the trailer if you care to see.
Thank you all for reading and for sharing in our adventures!
